Gluten Free Skin Care Products
Gluten Free Skin Care
We commonly hear about vegan or cruelty free skin care brands, but rarely do we ever think about gluten free skin care? Although this may not pertain to many, gluten free skin care can actually be imperative for those who suffer from celiac disease. Celiac can cause problems within the body, but can also develop in the form of dermatitis on the skin. In this post I will go over the types of ingredients you should avoid as well as gluten free products you can use!
Ingredients to Avoid:
Before I begin talking about some of the ingredients you should avoid, I wanted to address one popular ingredient that is not gluten free. Most ferment filtrates are not gluten free because they are nutrient dense yeasts. For example Saccharomyces ferment filtrate is a yeast with a rich source of beta glucan. Beta-glucan is commonly found in foods such as oats and barley, which should be avoided by those who have celiac disease. Although the popular ferment filtrates are found in extremely effective essences such as the SKII Facial Treatment Essence or Neogen Real Ferment Micro Essence, the ingredient should be avoided due to the correlation to yeast and other gluten products.
Now, here is a little cheat sheet regarding the types of ingredients you should avoid when looking for a gluten free skin care products
Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein
Wheat bran extract
Avena Sativa Extract
Oat Amino Acid
Now on to the fun stuff… ;)
The Eco Your Skin Oil to Foam cleanser is not only gluten free, but also serves as a multifunctional product! It gently works to dissolve any oil based impurities as well as remove any sebum from deeper within the skin, similar to the work of a foaming cleanser.
Soy Face Cleanser
Another option would be to use products containing soy. The Fresh Soy Face cleanser contains soy based ingredients and is extremely gentle on the skin. Besides the fact that this product is gluten free, it is perfect for sensitive skin types and will not leave the skin feeling dry after cleansing.
Gluten free physical exfoliants are actually quite hard to come by considering brands are beginning to use rice bran or oat in their formulas. Thankfully we have the Be The Skin Non-Stimulus Face polisher that will do the trick! This gluten free polisher contains ingredients such as castor oil, cellulose, and glycerin that will work to repair and moisturize the skin.
Now, I was very excited to find out the Be The Skin Botanical Nutrition Power Toner is gluten free! I have been using this toner for about 4 years and I have never been disappointed. Along with a mix of beneficial, hydrating extracts this product contains royal jelly, which will help to reduce inflammation and restore plumpness to the skin.
Unfortunately essence is also a difficult product to find in gluten free form, mainly due to the growing usage of ferment filtrates in products. Luckily I was able to find the Dual Moist Hyaluron Essence by Olivarrier! Olivarrier is an amazing brand for very sensitive, dry skin types and their entire line is actually gluten free. This essence contains hyaluronic acid which is perfect for gathering moisture from deep within the layers of the skin.
Another gluten free product from Be The Skin is their Botanical Nutrition Power Serum. This is a very light serum that contains royal jelly and squalane oil, which will both help to reduce skin inflammation, restore radiance, and provide deep hydration. The light consistency of this product also makes it perfect for oily to combination skin types.
Gluten free and full of antioxidants, this Peach & Lily Matcha Pudding Antioxidant Moisturizer is perfect for all skin types! This product has a creamy, light consistency and will not leave your skin with that thick or oily feeling. The antioxidants within this product works to protect against free radical damage from sun exposure and pollution.
Another product from the brand Olivarrier is their 100% Fluid Squalane Oil. This oil is extremely gentle and does not have a thick, oily consistency. This gentle and effective product has also worked wonders on my skin during intense eczema breakouts. I know I have mentioned Squalane oil quite a bit throughout this article,so, to clarify, Squalane oil is derived from shark liver and it helps to reduce inflammation as well as deliver deep hydration to the skin.
Finally, to top it all off, a gluten free moisturizing product you can use on your lips is the Peach & Lily Kbeauty Rescue Balm. This balm can be used as a lip balm for your chapped lips or you can use it on other rough areas of the skin!
Thank you so much for reading and I hope this article helps you to begin feeling more comfortable in your own skin:)
